My residency at 25sg served as a gateway, a gateway I immersed myself in to investigate the hinterland between my practices of movement, dance and visual art.
25sg provided a unique, challenging and yet very supportive vehicle in which I developed installations and performances, in three spaces over ten days: two of which I performed in, one shown through video, the other through a live performance.
Both performances investigated improvised movement scores arising from the installations themselves, one interacting with a live audience.
The work ended up in three parts. First in the garden with an installation: ‘Wind Words’, secondly in the garage with ‘Dream Boat’ – alongside a video and thirdly, in the attic/loft space with installation and live performance ‘Wind Power’.
This residency enabled me to investigate how I could integrate my different disciplines and practice through live art. Because I could concentrate on experimentation and not focus on an ‘outcome’, I was able to develop, create and integrate my practice in deep and multi-layered ways. By taking risks, crossing boundaries of expectations and then sharing those with others in real time and space, my practice has moved and shifted to a completely different place.
